Since coming back from winter break, we having been decomposing numbers. Basically, this means showing different ways to make one number. For example, 3 yellow and 2 red make 5 but 1 yellow and 4 red also make 5. We have taken it a step further and connected this idea to addition (3+2=5 and 1+4=5). A fantastic way to reinforce this concept and skill at home is by building towers with two colors of duplos or legos. I would love to see all the different ways you and your child can use building blocks or other objects from around the house (coins, buttons, etc.) to decompose.
