Our Thanksgiving break has officially started. I hope that everyone gets plenty of opportunities to enjoy the holiday with your loved ones. This is also a good time to reinforce what is being learned in the classroom. Sequential order and retelling skills are very important in reading comprehension. Our class has learned the nuts and bolts of the first Thanksgiving and then we made a beaded bracelet to assist them in remembering the details to retell the story. Practice with your child and then let them proudly tell family members and guests at Thanksgiving dinner. Of course, just taking opportunities to read with your child and asking them to tell you what the story was about is also great practice. Again, I sincerely hope that each of your families has a very happy Thanksgiving.
It is already mid-November, and your kiddo is almost halfway through the year. What does your child know or is doing that most surprises you since starting kindergarten?
